I have been an avid reader ever since I learned to read. I built up two huge bookshelves full of all kinds of books. I grew immensely attached to not only reading, but, as I realized later, the traditional paper form of book.

So when I heard about E-Readers, I became apprehensive and a little defensive, as these new inventions threatened my previous collection. I was stubborn as friends of mine who are big readers constantly lectured me on E-Reader benefits, until I finally relented and tried one. As you might have guessed, after I researched all the E-Readers and tried out my friend’s models, I bought my own.

So, if you are like me and are stubborn or unsure if an E-Reader is right for you then here are some things to consider:

E-readers are great for the environment – Think about how many trees and resources it takes to make a million books and ship them all over the world, compared to the ease at which a digital book is distributed. You are truly helping the environment by supporting eBooks.

eBooks are generally cheaper – Even though an E-Reader may be a big investment to begin with, if you buy enough books digitally that you would have in paper form, you will eventually earn that money back and then some.

This isn’t just a small laptop screen – There is no light coming from an E-Reader screen, it is not a strain on the eyes like a computer monitor, it reads like a real book. You can read it in really bright light just as easily as you would in a normally lighted room.

You can get tons of free books – Intellectual Property laws are relatively new, that means that old, classic books are in the public domain, which means you can get them for free and put them on your E-Reader to read instead of having to buy them. Want all of Shakespeare or Dickens’ work? No problem.

E-Reader features you may not know about

Textbooks are frequently available in digital form, if you have to lug heavy textbooks from class to class, than an E-Reader will save you a ton of back strain.

You can take notes by using the provided keyboard as you read and then download them to your computer later, that is way better than scribbling in margins. You can play music, most E-Readers double as a music player so you can listen to whatever you’d like while you read.

E-Readers can make a book into an audio book, many E-Readers can read your book to you. E-Readers can read internet blogs, newspapers and magazines, it’s not just books you can read on your E-Reader, you’ll find you barely ever read anything off of paper after you get your reader.

There is really no reason not to try an E-Reader, they are only going to become more common moving forward, I think a few years from now not having a E-Reader will be like not having a cell phone, if you talk on the phone, you need a cell phone, if you like reading books, you will love an E-Reader.
